Włodzimiera Kolk’s practice spans easel painting, graphic design and one-of-a-kind textile works. Her life and work have long been closely tied to Koszalin.

Born in 1942 in Dobre, in the Kujawy region of Poland, she attended the State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Wrocław before studying at the Faculty of Painting, Graphic Arts and Sculpture of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań. In 1968 she received her diploma in poster and book design in Professor Waldemar Świerzy’s studio.

In her paintings, figures, objects and architecture meet expanses of colour. Set in vast, elusive spaces, these encounters take on a lyrical, mysterious quality. This is how the Museum in Koszalin describes her pictorial language.

After graduating, she worked in Połczyn-Zdrój, then lived in Koszalin before spending more than a decade in Piła. She returned to Koszalin in the early 1990s. She took part in the International Meetings of Artists, Scientists and Art Theorists in Osieki, in Impresje Mikołowskie, and in international painting symposia, including in Italy and Greece.

Paintings that find their place. Her works are held by the Museum in Koszalin, BWA in Piła and the Mikołów City Council. The biography published by Koszalin City Council also lists public and private collections in Europe and Canada.
